Moscow State University Department of Chemistry
Organic Division
The main areas of scientific activity of Organic Division are:
- Synthesis of new organic and organometallic compounds.
- Investigation of reaction mechanisms and development of new organic and organometallic synthetic methods.
- Development of calculation methods for structural and complicate organic and organometallic compounds of biological and catalytic importance.
- Preparation of new type of low dimensional polymeric materials.
- Ecological chemistry
Several independent scientific groups are efficiently working in synthesis of new types of organometallic and coordination complexes as perspective catalysts of important organic reactions:
- olefine polymerization and copolymerization;
- olefine and polar olefine copolymerization;
- carbon-heteroelement (C-E) s-bonds and especially carbon-hydrogen (C-H) activation reactions;
- organic oxidation and reduction reactions.
The types of synthesized complexes are:
- ansa-sandwich compounds, organometallic complexes of constrained geometry, chelated coordination compounds of constrained geometry and metal complexes with large nitrogen containing macrocycles; the groups of prof. D. A. Lemenovski, Yu. A. Ustinyuk and doctors I. E. Nifant’ev, A. Z. Voskoboinikov, E. R. Milaeva are working in these areas;
- synthesis of very specific class of so called "poly-triangular-systems" based on cyclopropane, moieties is developed by group of doctor T. S. Kuznetsova in interests of biochemistry;
- new types of metallatranes and metallakanes are synthesized in group of doctor G. S. Zaitseva. These compounds are of high and variety biological activity;
- new rod-type long-extended bipyridyl molecules are synthesized and investigated in group of doctor S. Z. Vatsagze as bio-active compounds and as ligands for low-dimensional coordination metal-containing polymers. Wide set of new heterocycles are synthesized by prof. M. A. Yurovskaya and V. I. Terenin.
- New areas of cross-coupling reactions are developed in laboratory of academician I. P. Beletskaya and prof. N. V. Lukashev in interests of fine chemicals synthesis. Highly functionalized systems are in focus of research work.
- New synthetically promising reactions of conjugated halogenation of unsaturated organic compounds are advanced by research team of prof. N. V. Zyk.
- Intimate features of interligand interactions in coordination sphere of transition metals are investigated by doctor G. I. Nikonov. The work is important for understanding the mechanisms of metal-complexes catalysis.
The wide range of calculation methods are developed for prediction of the properties and understanding of the way of activity of different cell receptors and ligands bonded with them. These investigations are performed under the leadership of academician N.S.Zefirov. The new specialization named "Medical chemistry" is introduced for student education. QSAR-methods are developed by doctor V. A. Palyulin.
Syntheses of new metal-complexes for preparation of anitotropic low-dimensional materials in interest of nanotechnologies are performed by prof. D.A.Lemenovski and by doctors V.P.Dyadchenko and S. Z. Vatsadze.
The group of prof. V. S. Petrosyan conducts a research in the field of organic environmental chemistry. The humic substances research involves structural characterization, quantifying binding and detoxifying properties in relation to heavy metals and organic contaminants, deriving QSAR for humic substances.
