Directions Of Activities Performed By The Center For Environmental Monitoring And Commercialization Of Scientific Researches

Main Objective

To provide the following services in Kirov and the neighboring regions:

to give assessments and predictions of the condition of environmental objects,
to test the quality of raw material and products produced by enterprises of different industrial and agricultural branches, and
to develop methods of environmental recovery and the production of biotechnological goods.

Available services

Analytical work (laboratory analyses) during environmental monitoring, assessment of environmental situation at residential areas, in industrial zones, ecologically polluted regions;
remediation services, including research work while developing biotechnologies for extermination of various ecological toxicants in environmental objects with follow-up remediation of the territory;
researches and developments by contract basis aimed to support state and private programs of new products and processes development;
technology development and quality evaluation of products manufactured by industrial and agricultural companies;
technical training of specialists.

The laboratory base of RACEM is to be completed by 2005. It will include chemical, microbiological laboratories and laboratory of perspective technologies. After the laboratory base is set up, licenses are to be obtained. In the future activities are to be carried out in accordance with GLP requirements.

International Collaboration

Lists of equipment necessary for implementation of ISTC and other commercial projects have been formed within the frame of Workshop SB-38 and ISTC projects. Current and prospective ISTC projects:

#1377 -- Creation of Regional I&R System on Scientific and Industrial Potential of the Kirov Region in the Sphere of Biotechnology;
#2908 -- Remote sensing technology development for a locust mass breeding areas mapping in order to secure ecologically safety measures of agricultural fields protection.
#0671 (working number) -- Research, Estimation and Quality Control of Bioactive Substances (BAS);
(no number) -- Ecological Monitoring of food products and water in Kirov (at partner's consideration);
(no number) -- Evaluation of Soil and Water Pollution Level Around the Territory of Pesticide Burial and Storage Place.(partner is being defined)

RACEM specialists already worked with US EPA within the frame of project #K338 "Evaluation of Ecological Situation in the Result of Industrial, Biotechnological and Chemical Production and Pesticide Storage.

Based on a market study conducted by RACEM, a demand package from industrial enterprises for analytical services which are to be rendered after the laboratory is set up has been worked out.

Among RACEM specialists there are leading biotechnologists, microbiologists, chemists and ecologists (Doctors of Sciences, PhDs), including USSR State Prize winners, post-graduate students, as well as competitors for academic degree.
